S is for Shiny New Idea

I haven't met a writer who hasn't fought the battle of the Shiny New Idea. You know what I'm talking about. You're trucking along on your WiP, writing away -- or maybe you've reached the revision stage -- and all of a sudden, something goes off in your head. And you're itching to abandon your current idea to start something new.

I usually have this happen to me when I'm neck-deep in revisions. Especially if it's a huge revision process (which, for me, it usually is). I crave the creativity and adrenaline-rush of that first draft. And then that new idea appears to taunt and torture me. It's not fair, really.

So how about you? Have you fallen victim to a Shiny New Idea? Or did you manage to scribble it down and move on? How do you resist the temptation?
